Department of DVL, SSMC in association with TDS(R) / IADVL KN conducted CHALO PATASHALA /ARIVU program on 06/12/24 at sri siddharatha rural high school, Tumkur. Around 90 students participated in this interactive program. Dr Abhishek delivered a talk on general skin health ,effect of social media,fairness addiction. Dr D R Shivanand HOD ,busted the common myths and answered all the queries of students regarding misuse of steroids. And motivated to visit Department / OPD / SSMC Hospital for management of skin problems.

Speaker’s details:
1. Dr. Ravikar Ralph currently serves as Professor & Head at the Poison Control Center, Department of Medicine, Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.
At CMC Vellore, he is primarily involved with the care of patients with poisonings and snakebites; medical training; and research. He also co-ordinates activities at the CMC Poisons Information Center, a national-level facility handling one of the largest volumes of poisoning and snakebite-related calls from across the country.
Dr. Ralph has helped shape many policy and programmatic initiatives on snakebite prevention and control at various national and international forums. He has authored key international policy publications on snakebite mitigation in south Asia and other resource-limited regions. At the regional level, he has served as member of two WHO- SEARO expert groups constituted to formulate regional strategies for snakebite prevention and control and is the lead author of the WHO-SEARO Regional Action Plan document for snakebite control, published in February 2022. He also serves as member of the WHO Global Roster of Experts and Technical Advisory Group on snakebite prevention and control and as Clinical and India Advisor to the Global Snake Bite Initiative (GSI), USA foundation.

The CME/Workshop was very informative which trained the Medical Officers, faculty members, Post graduates students & under graduates students in details regarding snake bite, its management & treatment.
The Speaker Dr.Karthik explained about new advancements in research on polyvalent anti snake venom which is taking place in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
The CME overall was successful in training the Delegates who participated giving in-depth knowledge on Snake Bite management & treatment.

Sri Siddhartha medical College conducted a free medical camp at Maruti Maharaj conventional hall, Tumkur on 22.06.2024. All specialist consultations were provided free to the patients and also free drugs were given, checking of blood pressure and random blood sugar test were done to screen for hypertension and diabetes respectively. A total of 97 patients attended the medical camp and received free specialist consultation and treatment.
In the view of World No tobacco day 2024 ,Department of community medicine SSMC, Tumkur along with Sri Siddhartha nursing college conducted a role play on 11/06/2024 infront of Nagavalli Gram Panchayat office between 12:00-12:30, It was presided by Dr M B Sanikop, Principal SSMC, Dr G N Prabhakar, Vice Principal SSMC, Dr Cheluve Gowda HOD Department of community medicine, Dr Veena Assistant professor Department of community medicine, Dr Viquar Ahmed Associate Professor, department of community medicine was the coordinator for the event, Mrs Mangalagowramma, President Gram Panchayat ,Nagavalli, Mrs Rukmini, Member of Gram Panchayat
All Staffs and Postgraduates of the Department of the Community medicine welcomed the dignitaries following which role play was enacted. The students and the participants were thanked for their active participation.
In the view of World Environmental day 2024 ,Department of community medicine SSMC, Tumkur along with Sri Siddhartha nursing college faculties and students on 11/06/2024 At Rural health training centre, Nagavalli. Tree saplings were planted by Dr M B Sanikop ,Principal SSMC and Dr G N Prabhakar ,Vice principal SSMC,Tumkur which symbolizes our dedication to a greener planet. Each tree helps fight climate change, boosts biodiversity, and purifies the air. This small act of planting a sapling inspires collective environmental responsibility, promoting a healthier Earth for future generations. National Dengue Day 2024 was observed on 05-06-2024 by the department of community medicine SSMC, Sri Siddhartha nursing college along with District administration at BGS Circle, Tumkur District health officer, District surgeon, faculties, Post graduates and Undergraduate students from our medical and nursing college gathered together aimed at raising awareness about dengue prevention and control measures and promoting public health. Awareness was done through use of placards, posters, audio visual aids, slogans and some of the slogans like “If they breed you will bleed”, “Stay bite-free, Stay dengue-free” were displayed by our medical and nursing students. A Jattha was organized from BGS circle with the theme “Our Responsibility for a Safer Tomorrow”.
The Jaatha was flaged off at 10:00 AM from BGS Circle to District Commissioners office by the dignitaries. The programme was attended by Dr Manjunath District health officer ,Dr Asgar baig, District surgeon, Dr Chandrashekar Programme officer officer of NVBDCP ,Dr Rangaswamy President Indian medical association ,Tumkuru, Dr Cheluve gowda, Hod & Professor, SSMC Tumkur ,Dr Mir viquar ahmed Associate professor, Department of Community Medicine, All the Postgraduates Dr Neha Nagaraj, Dr Sideek, Dr Ramees Badar, Dr Amal Kareem, Dr Nivedha Emmanuel & Dr Kirubakaran from the Department of community medicine, SSMC,Tumkur welcomed the gathering and the dignitaries.
Dr chandrashekar spoke about dengue transmission by aedes mosquitoes & prevention revolves around eliminating mosquitoe breeding sites using insect repellants, wearing protective clothing and also looking for early symptoms of dengue. The students were thanked for their active participation. The program ended at 12:45 PM.

Dr chandrashekar Spoke about climate change and its significant threats to the planet, Extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and sea-level rise are increasingly evident, impacting communities worldwide. He also emphasized that the efforts to mitigate climate change is only through renewable energy adoption, emissions reduction and conservation initiatives are urgent actions needed to be taken.
World Environment Day human chain was displayed to the public by the students of our medical and nursing college with the aim to unite people in a symbolic display of solidarity for environmental protection. Participants formed a chain to visually represent the interconnectedness of humanity and our shared responsibility to safeguard the planet. Through the human chain, participants raise awareness about pressing environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss. By joining hands, people demonstrate their commitment to collective action and inspire others to prioritize environmental stewardship in their daily lives and building a sustainable future for all. The students were thanked for their active participation. The program ended at 12:45 PM.
