Digital Library

The Library is housed in a unique Geodesic Dome that is aesthetically structured to act as an Energy Center providing inspiration for the students to get into reading habit. It has 4 floors on the reading side with a seating capacity of 500 and 5 floors on the stocking side to stock 1,00,000 books. At present the Library has 67,000 volumes and subscription to 156 National and International journals. It has a seperate fully air conditioned , Digital Library with a seating capacity of 40. The Institute is member of DELNET, and JCCC. The centre also has of collection of corporate annual reports pertaining to private / public sector undertakings and project reports on different areas of research. The library is laid out spaciously. Its eco-friendly environment provides calm and peaceful environment for learning.

Library building - A Geodesic dome :

Library is accommodated in one of the unique grandest structure; a geodesic dome, to act as an energy centre for students go get in to the reading habit.

The structure has 7 levels, utilized for Stack area and two Reading Halls which can accommodate nearly 400 hundred students at a time and 60 people in the digital Library. Access to each level is provided with staircase and lift, The building has a stack area for 80,000 to 90,000 books,

The dome has several pneumatically operated windows for air circulation within the building and air conditioning units for climate controls. 1st set of 15 operables are located at the topmost part of the dome for exhaust air and the 2nd set consisting of 49 pairs of smaller openables are located at various locations around the dome surface to facilitate intake of fresh air. The building is having natural cooling system by cold water pond around the building and beautiful green lawn.

Library Software

Library is managed with NewGenLib ILMS (Integrated Library Management Software). It is deckared as free and open source software under GNU GPL. In order to customize it we subscribed to Verus Solutions Pvt. Ltd AMC services. They solve the problems if accured during daily transactions.

Books arrangements in Stacking Area

Books have been arranged in all floors according to DEWEY DECIMAL SCHEME OF CLASSIFICATION, along with shelf guides to identify the availability of books.

  • 1st Floor: Software & Basic Sciences Floor (CSE, ISE, MATHS, PHY, CHEM)
  • 2nd Floor: Electrical Sciences (Electrical, Electronics, Telecom, Medical Electronics,).

Digital Library Service

The library has a separate, fully air conditioned Digital Library with 25 computers to access online national, international journals, E-books. The learing resources consist of online databases, educational CD’s, Lecture series on various topics of different subjects, and competitive examinations

It is a research database for access to journal articles, conference proceedings, technical standards, and related materials on computer science, electrical engineering and electronics, and allied fields. It contains material published mainly by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and other partner publishers. IEEE Xplore provides web access to more than 5 million documents from publications in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics and allied fields.
AICTE & DELNET have signed a move to:-

  1. Promotes access to more relevant information of AICTE approved technical institute.
  2. Create union catalogue of resource available within the tech colleges for recourses showing purpose through DELNET.

Library Support to Research Activities

The Library is subscribing to Drillbit Plagiarism checking tool in order to support the Research scholars, BE, M.Tech., Students, and faculty members to facilitate their Publication activities.

Library user Awareness Programmes:

In order to promote the usage of library both Printed and online resources the library is organizing orientation programme for the freshers by distributing the pamphlets describing the library services offered . Meanwhile we have also organized students and faculty awareness programmes to promote usage of online journals subscribed by the library such as IEEE, ASCE and ASME journal collection.

Hostels

The Institute offers a separate hostels for Boys and Girls with well furnished rooms. We run our hostels in a green and peaceful environment which welcomes students. These hostels will accommodate more than 750 students comfortably. The hostel cleanliness comforts to ace hygiene standards. Mess facilities are also available to provide the hostlers with nutritions and quality food.


Science and Technology Entrepreneur Park" (STEP)

Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology was established in the year 1979 under the ambit of Sri Siddhartha Education Society Tumkur, as one of the self-financing institute. Presently this has grown as one of the premier Technological institutes in Karnataka state. In recognition of the growth and strength of the institute, World Bank selected 14 colleges as better performing institutes for the implementation of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (with the Govt. of Karnataka) during 2004. SSIT runs 9 Under Graduate and 5 Master Degree Programmes. It has state- of- art facilities in labs and Class rooms. It is serving the society through a variety of programmes. Community Service is a part of the activity. Both students and staff are involved in these programmes. In retrospect, Sri Siddhartha Education Society was started during 1959 by the veteran Late Dr.H.M.Gangadaraiah (HMG) with the blessings of the Saint, Seer Vinobha Bhave. The society presently runs more than 80 institutions in the state, including a Medical, a Dental, a Nursing, and Engineering. The institute is presently managed by Dr. G.Parameshwara, Former Higher Education Minister of Karnataka as Joint Secretary and Dr. K.A.Krishnamurthy, as Principal. Further appreciation our potential, strength and effort, University Grant Commission (UGC) has accord us the status of University College (under the ambit of Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education).

In recognition to its Continuing efforts in bringing the Entrepreneurial Culture in this region, the Government of Karnataka, Dept. of Industries and Commerce sanctioned a “Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park”- (STEP) during 2000, which has been named in the loving memory of our founder Secretary Sri.HMG as “Gangadharaiah – Memorial Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation Center”-(G-MEDIC). The main objective of the centre is to promote Entrepreneurship among graduates (Science/Technology), in Tumkur district. Since then, It has been conducting various Skill Development Programmes, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes and Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes and other activities for the youth. To promote and further its social commitments, the society has constructed a building for STEP with all necessary infrastructures with a built-up area of 15,000Sq.ft.

In retrospect, Sri.R.V.DESHPANDE, Former Hon’ble Minister of Large & Medium Scale Industries, Govt. of Karnataka laid the foundation stone for the SSIT-STEP Buildings in the presence of the His Excellency, the Governor of Karnataka. During 2001.

In the year 2003, Department of IT&BT (Information Technology & Bio-Technology), Government of Karnataka sanctioned an IT Incubation Center to the STEP. This center provides all requisite environment and facilities to the first generation entrepreneurs in the field of IT to start their own ventures. It may be mentioned here that since 1989, SSIT has germinated itself in community activities and has trained a contingent of trainers for the enforcement of programmes.

G-MEDIC has been recognized as one of the best training centers in the district by various govt. agencies and industry. As on date there are four deferent organs as mentioned below together constitutes as G-MEDIC. The organs and their activities are as follows:

A well furnished & euipped, a primary health center having a plinth area of 360smt is suited in the campus. A health will have well experienced & qualified doctors & staff. The facilities available in the health center are a major operation theater, a preliminary testing laboratory & well furnished wards in case of emergency. All this facilities are extendec to students, staffs & campus inmates.

Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology has special concern about specially abled students of the institution. The institution has address accessibility related issues as per the stipulations of the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995, to make the facilities disabled friendly.
